1)  What ages do we accept in our camp?

Lakeside Day Camp offers a summer camp for children ages 5-13.  The new Adventure Series is for ages 11-15.

2)  What is the camp hours and weeks of operation?

Lakeside Day Camp hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We generally operate for 10-11 weeks each summer from mid June to mid August.  The Adventure Series will be offered for 8 weeks.

3)  Do you pay additional fees for before and after care camp?

Our camp fees include the extended day that is from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

4)  Is the camp accredited?

The camp is accredited by the American Camping Association as well as state and county regulatory agencies.

5)  Do you accept special needs children?

We do not discriminate against any child with special needs.  If you have a child who requires special care, we ask that you meet with the director prior to enrollment to determine if our camp setting is appropriate.  We have specially trained staff to meet some medical needs but we do not have a full time nurse.  We have experience with children who are diabetic, ADD, asthmatic and allergic to a variety of foods and environmental allergens.  We strongly caution parents to carefully consider enrolling children with a fear of water since we are in the pools and around the pond regularly.  The Adventure Series will include activities involving canoeing, archery, climbing and a ropes course.  Each of these will require safety procedures as well as complete physical agility.

6)  What kind of activities do you offer during the day?

American Red Cross swim lessons, supervised recreational swimming, sports, creative arts, drama/music, environmental appreciation.  The Adventure Series will include canoeing, archery and ropes course.

7)  Do club members or child care families receive a discount for Lakeside Day Camp?

There is a discount to club members for the camp and those rates are provided in our brochure or on the website under Lakeside Day Camp.    The Child Care Center enrollees and their siblings receive a 2% (second child) discount off of the non-member or member rates.

8)  Do you have to pre-register for the whole summer or can you do it for less blocks of time?

One of the great advantages to Lakeside Day Camp is that it provides care for your child from one day to 10 weeks.  You register and pay for only those days or weeks that you need child care.  There are registration procedures that are required but this flexibility has been great for families working around other specialty camps, vacations or other needs.   The Adventure Series will be offered in one or two full weeks sessions only. You may also register for up to 8 weeks of this series.

9)  How old are camp counselors?

We schedule our staff to get the best possible combinations of experience and youth.  We have Specialty Counselors who are instructors for the various activities; they are typically at least 21 yrs of age and usually teachers who are out of school for the summer.  We have Head and Assistant Head Counselors who lead the groups of children through the daily rotation of activities.  They are typically college students or graduates.  General counselors who assist within the groups are high school students – preferably sophomore and above.  We also hire a small percentage of Junior Counselors who work in the groups as part of on the job training.

10)  Is our camp structured to the different age groups?

Each activity is structured to address the needs of different ages of children.  The campers are divided into their respective age groups within the camp.  Each group is assigned counselors who will be trained specifically for their age group of children.  Counselor to camper ratio is established by the American Camping Association.
